NDSCS Ends Pioneer Softball Streak As Bats Held Quiet

Game 1 - Pioneers 1... NDSCS 3

Taylor Feller (C - Laurel, MT) hit a solo home run in the 1st inning to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. MCC bats were held silent from that point on and NDSCS scored 3 runs in the top of the 4th to take a 3-1 win in game 1 on Monday afternoon. The game was a makeup game that was scheduled to be played March 30 but was postponed due to weather. 

NDSCS tied the game at 1-1 and then took advantage of a Pioneer fielding error and a passed ball to pick up their final 2 runs. 

Arin Eaton (RF - Belgrade, MT) had a double while Shannon Nelson (SS - Livingston, MT) and Khloey Robinson (LF - Belgrade, MT) had singles for MCC. 

Peyton Whitehead (Joliet, MT) went 7 innings (7 H, 3 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 SO) in a strong pitching performance.

  • Pioneer batters struck out 11 times and drew only 2 walks. 
  • MCC had the only 2 errors of the game. 
  • MCC had 2 stolen bases and NDSCS had 1. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 2... NDSCS 10

The NDSCS Wildcats started the 1st inning with 3 runs and then ended the 7th inning with 5 more including 2 home runs as the Wildcats swept the Pioneers on Monday afternoon. 

MCC scored a run in the 1st inning to cut the lead to 3-1. Shannon Nelson walked and Cassidy Bagnell (CF - Frenchtown, MT) singled before Taylor Feller walked to load the bases with no outs. Brooke Richardson (1B - Helena, MT) hit a sacrifice fly RBI to score Nelson but the Pioneers would not get more runs in the inning. 

NDSCS got a run in the 2nd inning to go up 4-1 and neither team would scored again until each team got a run in the 6th. MCC scored after Isabelle Adams (3B - Park City, MT) singled and moved to 2nd on a Viannca Martin (RF - Billings, MT) ground out. Nelson followed that with a RBI double but MCC would once again fail to put more runs on the board. 

Peyton Whitehead also pitched game 2 for MCC going 7 more innings (9 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 5 BB, 2 SO).

Inside the Box Score

  • MCC batters struck out 13 times in the game and drew 6 walks. 
  • Each team committed one error. 
  • Isabelle Adams was the only Pioneer with 2 hits. 

The Pioneers fell to 12-6 in MonDak Conference play and are 18-11 overall. NDSCS is now 13-1 in conference play and 32-8 overall. The Pioneer game at Dawson scheduled for Wednesday has been moved to Thursday, April 25 at 1:00 PM in Glendive.
