Pioneer Softball Snaps 4-Game Losing Streak

Game 1 - Pioneers 16... Dakota College at Bottineau 2 (5 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers snapped a 4-game losing streak with a resounding 16-2 victory over Dakota College at Bottineau Saturday afternoon in Miles City.

Dalilah Hernandez (2B - Laurel, MT) had a big game at the plate going 3-4 (2 2B, HR, 6 RBI) as the Pioneers scored in every inning. Shannon Nelson (SS - Livingston, MT) went 2-3 (2 R, 2 RBI) from the leadoff spot and Isabelle Adams (3B - Park City, MT) was the other Pioneer with 2 hits. 

Arin Eaton (RF - Belgrade, MT) added a triple as the Pioneers smacked 7 extra base hits. 

Payton Whitehead (Joliet, MT) got the win in the circle pitching a complete game 5 innings (7 H, 2 R, BB, 7 SO). With the victory, Whitehead became the Pioneers all-time leader in pitching victories.

  • The Pioneers had 12 hits and the Lumberjacks had 7.
  • DCB had 2 errors and MCC had 1.
  • No Pioneer hitter struck out in the game. 
  • MCC had 5 stolen bases and DCB had none.

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 10... Dakota College at Bottineau 2 (5 Innings)

 

Dakota College scored the first 2 runs of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning but the Pioneers scored the final 10 over the final 4 innings to secure a 10-2 win in game 2 Saturday afternoon. 

Dalilah Hernandez continued her hot day at the plate with a 2-4 effort (2 RBI, R) and Cassidy Bagnell (CF - Frenchtown, MT) was 2-3 (2 RBI, 2 R) to lead the Pioneer hitters. 

The Pioneers broke open a close game with 5 runs in the 4th inning and then put the game away with 2 more in the 5th. 

Rian Ferriter (Butte, MT) tossed a 2-hitter and allowed only 1 hit after the first inning. Ferriter struck out 5 and walked only 1.

  • MCC had 9 hits and DCB had 2.
  • There was only one extra base hit in the game (Brooke Richardson).
  • MCC had 6 stolen bases and DCB had none. 
  • Dakota College committed the only 2 errors of the game. 

The Pioneers moved to 14-8 in conference play and 18-13 overall. The regular season concludes Sunday with another doubleheader against DCB starting at 11:00 AM.
