Pioneer Softball Gives Up Only One Run in Dominant Sweep of Bottineau

Game 1 - Pioneers 9... Dakota College at Bottineau 0 (5 Innings)

Rylynn Krein (Fergus Falls, MN) tossed a one-hitter and the MCC Pioneers scored 4 runs in the 1st inning to shut out the Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks 9-0 on a beautiful Thursday afternoon in Miles City, MT)

Krein gave up only a single in the 3rd inning to record her 2nd consecutive shutout in as many starts and has now run her scoreless inning streak to 12 1/3 in MonDak Conference play. 

Malory Webb (SS - Idaho Falls, ID) walked, stole 2nd base, and scored on a RBI single from Arin Eaton (CF - Belgrade, MT) to lead off the game and give the Pioneers all the runs they would need. With one out, Brooke Richardson (1B - Helena, MT) walked and then Eaton and Richardson moved up a base on a double steal. Eaton scored on passed ball to put the Pioneers up 2-0. Khloey Robinson (LF - Belgrade, MT) singled and Adrie Mortensen (C - Rexburg, ID) drove in 2 runs with a single. 

In the 3rd inning, Richardson reached 2nd base on a error and scored on a RBI single from Addison Sanders (3B - Idaho Falls, ID). Sanders eventually got to 3rd base and scored on a wild pitch. MCC then picked up 3 more runs in the 4th inning to give them enough cushion to implement the 8-run mercy rule. 

Eaton tripled to start the inning and scored on a passed ball. Sanders reached base on a fielders choice right before a Robinson single. Mortensen drove 2 more runs across the plate with a double for her 2nd hit and 4th RBI of the game. Eaton also had 2 hits to lead MCC. 

Krein threw 60 pitches in the contest with 50 of those pitches being strikes. She walked just one and struck out 11.

  •  The Pioneers had 7 hits (3B, 2B) and DCB had just one. 
  • The Pioneers had 7 stolen bases to 1 for the Lumberjacks. 
  • DCB committed the only error of the game. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out only once and walked 7 times. Lumberjack batters struck out 11 times and walked once. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 16... Dakota College at Bottineau 1 (5 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers scored 9 runs in the 1st inning after DCB got on the board 1st with a run in the top of the 1st and then MCC followed that with 6 more in the 2nd inning to dominate the Lumberjacks 16-1 in 5 innings of game 2.

Malory Webb walked to lead off the game and reached 3rd base on a wild pitch. Webb scored a Viannca Martin (RF - Billings, MT) ground ball that was misplayed by the Jacks and Martin was on 1st. Rian Ferriter (3B - Butte, MT) doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. With one out, Lily Bolin (1B - Belgrade, MT) smacked a 2 RBI single and the Pioneers led 3-1. MCC then scored 6 runs with 2 outs. Brylee Lowell (CF - Columbus, MT) singled and Paityn Ralphs (2B - Ammon, ID) was hit by a pitch to load up the bases. Madison Moorman (LF - Laurel, MT) and Webb drew back to back walks for a 5-1 lead. Martin then hit a bases clearing double and scored on a defensive error 2 batters later. 

Bolin then led off the 2nd inning with a solo home run and that was followed by a walk from Megan Brownson (C - Billings, MT). Lowell sacrificed and reached base on another error. Ralphs cracked a 2 RBI double to give MCC a 12-1 lead. Ralphs then scored after a steal and DCB error. With 2 outs, Martin walked and Ferriter singled to put runners on the corners. Ferriter promptly stole 2nd and both runners were driven in on a single by Dalilah Hernandez (DP - Laurel, MT) .

MCC added a final run in the bottom of the 4th on a passed ball. 

Rylie Schlepp (Helena, MT) had a solid pitching effort throwing a complete game 5 innings (R, 4 H, BB, 7 SO).

  • The Pioneers had 10 hits (4 2B, HR) and the Jacks had 4 hits.
  • MCC had 2 stolen bases and DCB had 3. 
  • DCB had 4 errors in the game and MCC had 1. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out twice and walked 7 times. They also had 2 hit by pitch. 
  • Lumberjack batters struck out 7 times and walked once. 

The Pioneers are tied with NDSCS for the MonDak Conference lead at 6-0. MCC is 18-8 on the season and plays another doubleheader with Bottineau on Friday starting at 1:00 PM.
