PIONEERS BRING HOME MONDAK TIP-OFF CHAMPIONSHIP

PIONEERS BRING HOME MONDAK TIP-OFF CHAMPIONSHIP

The Pioneers edged the Mystics of Bismarck State for the MonDak Conference Tip-off Championship on Sunday, November 4.  MCC had a hard time finding their rhythm throughout the game and left the door wide open for a good BSC team.  The Pioneers found themselves trailing at the half, 32-34.  MCC came out with a little spark in the third quarter and were able to take the lead back from the Mystics.  The Pioneers found themselves in foul trouble late, with Patrycja Jaworska fouling out of the game with just one minute left to play.  With less than a 30 seconds to play, the Pioneers were able to come up with a stop when they needed it and hung on for the victory and the tournament championship, 78-76.

Bre Moea'i and Dakota Dosch were the leading scorers with 13 points a piece.  Lucia Salazar contributed 12 on the day and Laura Moya had 10 points.  Kylee Meredith led the team in rebounds with four.  Jaworska led the Pioneers in assits with five.

Head Coach Nate Vogel was very happy with how his team played, "I am excited to see everyone on the team contribute.  It's always good to see the player's hard work paying off with wins.  It was good to see our team find a way to win in the championship game, even though we struggled and didn't play the way we are capable of playing.  I absolutely love the young women on this team and feel very fortunate to be their coach."

The Pioneers will play at home in the Kailey Gymnasium on Friday, November 9 at 5:00pm against Sheridan College.
