Lady Pioneers Start 2020 With Tough Loss to Gillette

Binta Salawu (Sydney, Aus) poured in 32 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists but it was not enough as a balanced Gillette attack led by the nations 5th leading scorer Kobe Hawea led the Pronghorns to a 81-68 win in Miles City.

Hawea scored 24 points and 7 rebounds while Molly Coleman chipped in 21 points and 10 rebounds as Gillette outscored Miles 22-11 in the 4th quarter to pull away from a tight game late. MCC tied the game at 59 with 9:33 remaining but the Pronghorns went on a 10-2 run over the next 3 minutes and stayed in control the rest of the way. Skylar Patton added 15 and Sydney Prather netted 13 for the 14-2 Pronghorns.

Lili Long (Melbourne, Aus) was the only other Pioneer in double figures with 13 points. Claire Borot (Martinique, France) had 10 rebounds as the Pioneers lost the rebounding battle 42-50.

MCC will play at Central Wyoming College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
