MCC Women Use Big 2nd Half to Top DCC

Aussies pair of Binta Salawu and Lili Long each scored 17 points as MCC rallied from a 4-point halftime deficit to dominate the 2nd half and hand the Dawson Buccaneers another loss at the hands of MCC. Dawson led 29-25 after 2 quarters as the Lady Pioneers shot a dismal 0-13 from the 3-point line and 24% from the field in the first half before turning things around in the last 20 minutes. MCC shot 45% in the second half and held Dawson to 21% FG and 0-10 from the 3-point line as the Lady Pioneers outscored the Bucs 44-27 in the final 2 quarters.

Salawu added 8 assists on the night and Olyvia Pacheco had 9 points and 12 rebounds to help the Lady Pioneers to a 51-38 advantage on the boards. Turnovers were nearly even as DCC had 21 and MCC had 18. Free throws were also close as MCC was 22-30 while DCC shot 21-31. The most telling statistic of the night was the fact that Dawson only shot 28% for the game and made only 6 second half field goals.

Next up for the Lady Pioneers is a trip to 2nd place Bismarck State on Thursday and a chance to take full control of the MonDak Conference. The win over Dawson was the 22nd consecutive conference win since rejoining the league last season.
