MCC Women Lose on Late FT's at NDSCS

Neither the MCC or NDSCS women's basketball teams could find the range on Sunday afternoon. The difference maker came on 2 Kate Carlson free throws with 0.4 seconds remaining following a controversial foul call. MCC's Claire Borot appeared to block Carlson's shot but a foul was called on Olyvia Pacheco and Carlson cashed in to give NDSCS a 48-46 win in Wahpeton. NDSCS shot a mere 16-68 FG (24%), 4-24 3'S (17%), and 12-23 FT (52%) and still managed to win Sunday's MonDak Conference battle. NDSCS didn't have a player score in double figures but Carlson had 9 points (2-10 FG, 5-6 FT) and had 12 rebounds while teammate Nikki Metcalf added 9 points (4-13 FG) and 11 rebounds as the Wildcats domintated the board 59-44. Science grabbed an amazing 28 offensive rebounds on the game which was the biggest factor in the Pioneer loss.

For the Pioneers (8-2 MonDak, 16-10 overall) Freshman Olyvia Pacheco led the way with 13 points (5-16 FG) and 10 rebounds. Binta Salawu added 11 points on the afternoon as the Pioneers shot a measly 16-60 FG and 6-20 3's. The 26% FG shooting was too much to overcome on this sunday afternoon. The Pioneers led 28-24 at the half but could only score 7 third quarter points and only 18 in the second half. Next up for MCC is it's final home game of the season on Thursday night as they host Dakota College-Bottineau. The Lady Pioneers will look to hold on to 2nd place in the conference and a 1st round bye in the Region XIII Playoffs.
