Miles CC Women Win in Williston

Sophomore point guard Binta Salawu scored 27 points and Kate Golovkina contributed 14 and the MCC Women stayed in a tie for the top spot of the MonDak Conference standings and a chance to host the Region 13 Playoffs with a 75-60 win in Williston, ND. Golovkina was filling in for injured Lili Long who sprained her ankle on Thursday against Dakota College-Bottineau. 

The Pioneers bolted to a 13-0 lead four minutes into the game and led 21-9 after one quarter. Williston State chipped away in the 2nd and 3rd quarters cutting the lead to one point midway thru the 3rd quarter before MCC pulled away in the 4th. Olyvia Pacheco led MCC on the boards with 11 as the Pioneers outrebounded the Tetons 43-41. Pachecho, Claire Borot, and KP Hoffman all scored 9 points in the victory. MCC shot 40% from the field but only 24% from the 3-point line (5-21). Williston connected on 37% of its FGA and was 7-13 from the 3-point line. The Pioneer defense forced 19 Teton turnovers and turned that into 20 points. 

Williston State was led by Gabriella Capasso with 17 points while Grace Lupumba hauled in 17 rebounds. The Pioneers will travel to Glendive on Thursday night to take on the Buccaneers and will continue to try and defend last year's league title.
