Lady Pioneer Rally Falls Short at Dawson

Lady Pioneer Rally Falls Short at Dawson

The Miles CC Lady Pioneers rallied late after trailing by 13 in the 2nd half only to see a potential game tying 3-pointer that would have sent the game to overtime bounce off the shot clock and Dawson escaped with a 67-64 win in Glendive.

Foul trouble was the theme of the night as 2nd leading scorer Claire Borot was held without a field goal and fouled out playing less than 25 minutes on the night. Freshman starter Olyvia Pacheco also had a short evening fouling out in only 16 minutes of action. Both players sat out much of the 2nd half. Sophomore Binta Salawu had a big night scoring 31 points (11-25 FG, 3-10 3's, 6-10 FT) grabbing 8 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists. No other Lady Pioneer scored in double figures but sophomore Kate Golovkina added 9 points and 8 rebounds while Pachecho had 8 points and 4 rebounds in her short stint on the court.

The Lady Pioneers were outrebounded 50-38 on the night and gave up 24 offensive rebounds. MCC racked up 18 turnevers and shot only 11-19 on the night. Miles defense was good enough to win holding Dawson to 34% FG and 9% from 3-point line but just gave up too many offensive rebounds. MCC fell out of a first place tie in the league standings and will finish its regular season on Sunday afternoon in Bismarck against United Tribes.

Dawson was led by Megan Lindbo's 18 points while Ashya Klopfenstein added 12 points and 11 rebounds. Miles fell to 18-11 overall and 10-3 in league play. Dawson is 7-6 in conference and 15-15 overall. Miles will need a win on Sunday to help secure a 2nd place finish and 1st round by in Region XIII playoffs.
