Long, Tanner Lead Pioneers to Win at Dawson

Long, Tanner Lead Pioneers to Win at Dawson

Miles Community College's Melbourne, Australia connection proved to be too much in the paint for the Dawson Buccaneers on Thursday night as Lili Long and Kate Tanner led the Pioneers to a 61-56 victory in Glendive to move to 8-0 on the season and take command of the MonDak Conference standings.

Sophomore Lili Long racked up 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds while Freshman Kate Tanner had 6 points and 14 rebounds. Olyvia Pacheco (Rawlins, WY) had 12 points and 5 rebounds while Jana Conejero (Malaga, Spain) returned from a thumb injury to score 13 and dish out 8 assists as the Pioneers led from start to finish. MCC started the game on a 7-0 run and never trailed. Dawson tied the game in the first half but could not manage to take the lead.

The Pioneers shot 38% (20-53) from the field and 63% (17-27) from the free throw line. Dawson had a poor shooting night hitting only 28% of it's shot attempts (22-80) and had a tough time cracking the Pioneer zone defense.

The nation's leading scorer Rebekah Dallinger (Sydney, Australia) was held to just 1-8 FG and 7-8 FT for 9 points in the game but MCC got just enough help to stay undefeated.

Ashya Klopfenstein led Dawson with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Next up is the only non-conference game of the season for MCC as they host the Rocky Mountain College JV on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
