Pioneer Women Use Huge 2nd Half to Snap Skid

The Miles Community College Women's Basketball team used a huge 2nd half that saw them shoot 58% from the field and 5-6 from the 3-point line for a resounding 77-49 win over Central Wyoming. The victory snapped a 7-game losing streak dating back to their season opening victory on November 2.  A back and forth 1st half saw 4 ties and 6 lead changes between the Pioneers and the Rustler as MCC went to the half with a 32-27 lead in which they shot 11-18 (61%) and 7-10 FT compared to only 11-27 (41%) for Central Wyoming.

In a season that the Pioneers were averaging 51 points per game and having shooting issues, all of that went away on Friday night. The Pioneers scored 45 2nd half points on 14-24 FG (58%), 5-6 3's, and 12-17 FT outscoring the Rustlers 45-22. Citlalli Gurrola (San Diego, CA) had the hot hand connecting on 7-8 FG, 5-6 3's, and 3-5 FT for 22 points. Gurrola also grabbed 6 rebounds and had 4 steals on the night. Gabby Flute Player (Flandreau, SD) came off the bench to score 16 points (7-10 FG, 2-3 3's) and was joined in double figures by Catalina de Georgi (Buenos Aires, Argentina) with 10 points (2-3 FG, 6-8 FT) and 8 rebounds. Kelbee Denham (Malta, MT) led the Pioneers with 6 assists.

The Pioneers (2-7 overall, 0-6 MonDak Conference) held the Rustlers to 33% shooting and 21% from the 3-point line. Alexxis Motisi led the Rustlers with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Pioneers will continue non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM MST against the Jamestown College JV.
