Jamestown JV Rolls Over Pioneer Women

After snapping a 7-game losing streak against Central Wyoming on Friday night, the MCC Pioneer women faltered against the University of Jamestown JV on Sunday afternoon falling 72-50 to the Jimmies. Jamestown took control of the game late in the 1st quarter opening up a tight game with a 4-0 run to end the quarter up 19-11. They continued the run in the 2nd quarter by outscoring the Pioneers 26-10 in the quarter to lead 45-21 at the half. That lead ballooned to as many as 33 points in the 3rd quarter and the Jamestown lead was 65-37. A lackluster 4th quarter saw the Pioneers outscore the Jimmies 13-7 to close the gap a little in the final score. 

Jimmie forward Hannah Hegal dominated the inside scoring 20 points (8-10 FG, 4-5 FT) and grabbing 8 rebounds. The Jimmies controlled the boards on the night outrebounding the Pioneers 42-28. Torrie Schutzman came off the bench and nailed 5-9 from 3-point line for 15 points and Emily Meier chipped in 11 points (5-10 FG, 1-3 FT). Ilycia Guerue had 6 assists for the Jimmies who had 16 assists on 26 FG. 

The Pioneers had only one player in double figures as Citlalli Gurrola (San Diego, CA) hit for 17 points (6-12 FG, 5-11 3's). Catalina de Giorgi (Buenos Aires, Argentina) scored 9 points (3-13 FG, 3-4 FT) and had a team high 6 rebounds. Gabby Flute Player (Flandreau, SD) also had 9 points (3-8 FG, 1-4 3's, 2-2 FT). The Pioneers connected on only 18-58 FG (31%) and was 7-25 (28%) from 3-point range. Jamestown was 26-54 FG (48%) and hit 7-19 (37%) on 3's. 

The Pioneers return back to MonDak Conference action on Tuesday night as they host Dakota College-Bottineau at 6:00 PM MST to wrap up the 1st round of conference games. The Pioneers are now 2-8 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
