Casper College Defense Leads to Win Over Pioneer Women

The Casper College Thunderbird defense forced 26 Pioneer turnovers and held the Pioneers to a season low 32 points in a convincing 82-32 win on Friday in Gillette, Wyoming. Casper got off to a fast start leading 26-5 after the 1st quarter. That lead swelled to 47-15 by halftime. The Pioneer defense was more solid in the 2nd half allowing only 35 points but MCC still could not get anything going offensively scoring only 17. 

Casper had a balanced attack led by Joseana Vaz scoring 15 points (5-9 FG, 3-4 3's, 1-2 FT). Elena Tzelou came foff the bench and had a perfect night from the field with 11 points (4-4 FG, 3-3 FT). 

The Pioneers were led in scorng by Citlalli Gurrola (San Diego, CA) with 10 points (3-12 FG, 2-8 3's, 2-2 FT). Catalina de Giorgi led the team in rebounds with 4 and Aylin Ramirez (Phoenix, AZ) had 4 assists.

  • Casper took 73 shots compared to only 44 for the Pioneers. Casper was 33-73 (45%) and 7-21 on 3's. The Pioneers were only 11-44 FG (25%) and 4-21 on 3's (19%).
  • Casper outrebounded MCC 50-25 and had 18 offensive rebounds.
  • The Pioneers had 26 turnovers to Casper's 13. 
  • MCC scored in double figures only in the 2nd quarter (10 points)
