Pioneer Women Stumble in 2022 Opener

The Central Wyoming Rustlers led from start to finish and avenged 28-point loss in Miles City to the Pioneers with a 65-48 win to open the new Year in Riverton, Wyoming. 

The Rustlers put 4 players in double figures led by Livia Knapp with 16 points to help the Rustlers move to 4-11 on the season. 

The Pioneers were led in scoring by Gabby Flute Player (Flandreau, SD) with 11 points (4-10 FG, 1-5 3's, 2-2 FT) and 7 rebounds. Angelina Dimasi (Warooni, Australia) chipped in 9 points (4-10 FG, 1-1 3's) and led the Pioneers with 11 rebounds. The Rustlers led 32-22 at halftime and the Pioneers cut the lead to 5 points early in the 3rd quarter before the Rustlers extended the advantage back to 10 points by the end of the quarter. The 4th quarter was all Rustlers as they outscored the Pioneers 19-12 for the final margin.

  • The Pioneers shot 33% (15-45) from the field compared to the Rustlers 35% (25-67).
  • MCC was only 27% (5-18) from the 3-point line and CWC hit 31% (8-26).
  • The Pioneers shot well at the free throw line with 81% (13-16) and the Rustlers were 64% (7-11).
  • The Pioneers committed 20 turnovers compared to only 9 for the Rustlers. 
  • Rebounding totals were even as both teams had 36 rebounds but the Rustlers had 13 offensive rebounds compared to only 7 for the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers fell to 2-13 on the season and will face rival Dawson in a MonDak Conference tilt on Thursday night at 5:30 PM in Glendive.
