League Leading NDSCS Wildcats Stall Pioneer Offense

MonDak Conference leading NDSCS Wildcats needed only 6 players in uniform on Tuesday night to stall the MCC Pioneer offense and keep their conference record perfect at 10-0 with a 70-44 win in Wahpeton, ND. The league's leading scorer Ivane Tensaie was unavailable as was fellow starter Laurie Cren but the Wildcats jumped out to a 21-10 first quarter lead and used solid defense to cruise to victory. 

Ambah Kowcun (5'10 Sophomore) scored 23 points (9-24 FG, 4-13 3's, 1-3 FT) and Arthel Massaquoi (5'10 Sophomore) chipped in 20 points (9-13 FG, 2-4 FT) and a team high 8 rebounds. Audrey Zezen (6'0 Freshman) was the other Wildcat in double figures in her first start of the season with 10 points (5-6 FG) and 5 rebounds. 

Gabby Flute Player (5'11 Sophomore) was the only Pioneer in double figures scoring 17 points (7-20 FG, 3-9 3's, 0-1 FT) in only 15 minutes of action. She also led the Pioneers in rebounds with 5. Aylin Ramirez (5'6 Freshman) had 5 assists to lead the Pioneers. 

Inside the Box Score

  • NDSCS outrebounded the Pioneers 39-32. The Wildcats had 15 offensive rebounds and the Pioneers had 11. 
  • Neither team shot many free throws as MCC was 3-6 and NDSCS was 3-7 on the night. 
  • The Pioneers shot 18-51 (35%) and 5-21 (24%) from 3-point line. The Wildcats were 29-63 (46%) and 9-30 (30%) from 3-point line. 
  • It was a clean game as MCC had only 10 turnovers and NDSCS had 6.

The Pioneers fell to 0-8 in MonDak Conference play and 2-14 overall and will travel to Bismarck, ND today to play United Tribes Technical College at 5:00 PM MST.
