Northwest College Completes Season Sweep of Pioneer Women

The Northwest College Trappers used a 18-0 run over the final minutes of the 2nd quarter and into the 3rd quarter to turn a 5-point deficit to a 13-point lead and then never looked back in a 69-48 victory over the MCC Pioneers on Friday night in Powell, WY. The victory for the Trappers completed a season sweep of the Pioneers and moved the Trappers to 8-8 on the season. 

Brenna Rouane scored 19 points (8-12 FG, 2-5 3's, 1-1 FT) and Darla Hernandez added 18 points (9-17 FG) and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for NWC. Kierra Cutright added 16 points (8-14 FG) and 14 rebounds for the Trappers. 

The Pioneers were led in scoring by Gabby Flute Player (Flandreau, SD) (7-15 FG, 2-5 3's) and Citlalli Gurrola (San Diego, CA) (6-11 FG, 4-8 3's) with 16 points. They were the only Pioneers in double digits combinig for 32 of the 48 points. Angelina Dimasi (Warooni, Australia) had 6 rebounds. The Pioneers connected on 5 of their 7 3-point field goal attempts in the 2nd quarter as they took a 5-point lead.

  • NWC hit on 30-71 FG (42%) while the Pioneers were 19-55 (33%).
  • The Pioneers hit 7 3-point field goals (7-17 overall, 5-9 in 2nd quarter) and NWC made only 2-11 (18%)
  • Neither team shot many free throws in a game that saw only 21 total fouls. MCC was 3-4 and NWC was 7-9 at the line. 
  • NWC had a 39-30 advantage in rebounding.
  • The Pioneers had 18 turnovers and the Trappers had 12. 

The Pioneers are now 3-15 overall and 1-8 in MonDak Conference play. They will head to Glendive on Sunday afternoon for a 2:00 PM conference game against Dawson CC.
