Pioneer Women Open Season With Dominating Victory

The MCC Pioneer Women's Basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and dominating defense to overwhelm the visiting Rocky Mountain College JV in a 80-40 win to start the 2022-23 season. The Pioneers got things going early with the inside play of freshman Jessica Tomkins (Melbourne, Australia) and 3-point shooting of RS Freshman India Blyth (Melbourne, Australia). The Pioneers jumped out to a 25-10 lead after the 1st quarter and stretched it to 41-15 at halftime. The lead swelled to 66-25 after 3 quarters  as the Pioneers cruised the rest of the way. 

Tomkins finished with 14 points (6-10 FG, 2-2 FT) and 4 rebounds while Blyth led the way in scoring with 16 points (5-13 FG, 4-8 3's, 2-2 FT) and 7 assists. Sophomore transfer guard Julia Paoletta (Buenos Aires, Argentina) scored 10 points (3-13 FG, 0-5 3's, 4-7 FT) and grabbed 6 rebounds while Forsyth, Montana product Becky Melcher came off the bench to score 12 points on 4-5 shooting from the 3-point line. 

Sophomore returners Catalina de Giorgi (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Angelina Dimasi (Warooni, Austraila) both came off the bench to lead the team in rebounding with 8 each. 11 of the 13 Pioneers that entered the game managed to get in the scoring column. 

MCC will play in the MonDak Conference Tournament this weekend in New Town, ND and open the tournament at 7:30 AM MST against North Dakota State College of Science in 4 Bears Casino.
