Turnovers Costly as Pioneer Women Lose at Lake Region State

The MCC Pioneer women could not overcome 30 turnovers as the Royals pulled away from a close game late to post a 69-60 LRSC victory over the Pioneers. MCC had a tough time dicing thru the Lake Region zone defense. 

The Pioneers trailed by as many as 13 points in the 2nd quarter but rallied to outscore the Royals 18-8 in the 2nd quarter to only trail 28-27 at the half. MCC took their only lead of the game early in the 3rd quarter before the Royals went on another run to build the lead to 8. MCC rallied again and cut the lead to 49-46 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Some costly turnovers and missed free throws finally sealed the fate of the Pioneers. 

Ella Paleaae-Cook (Melbourne, Australia) had a solid performance scoring 15 points (6-12 FG, 1-3 3's, 2-4 FT) to go along with 7 rebounds to lead the way for the Pioneers. The only other player in double figures was Jessica Tomkins (Melbourne, Australia) with 10 points (3-6 FG, 4-4 FT). 

MCC outrebounded LRSC 30-21 led by Catalina de Giorgi (Buenos Aires, Argentina) with 9 rebounds and Julia Paoletta (Buenos Aires, Argentina) led MCC with 4 assists. 

The Pioneers shot 22-50 (44%) from the field and 7-21 (33%) from 3-point line. MCC was hampered by at the free throw line as well going 9-17 (53%). The Royals were 24-50 FG (48%) and 4-16 3's (25%). The difference in the game was the Royals were able to hit 17-23 at the free throw line. 

MCC is now 2-3 on the season and 1-3 in MonDak Conference action. They will host Dawson CC on Tuesday night at 5:30 PM in the MCC Centra.
