Northwest College Dominates 2nd Half to Defeat Pioneer Women

The Northwest College Women's basketball team held the MCC Pioneers to only 4 2nd half field goals and rallied from a 29-23 halftime deficit for a 62-51 win on Saturday afternoon in Miles City. The Pioneer offense went dry hitting only 4-25 field goals in the 2nd half that included a 1-8 effort from the 3-point line. The Trappers shot 14-27 (52%) in that 2nd half in the come from behind victory over the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers Jessica Tomkins (Melbourne, Australia) was the only player that could find any rhythm offensively scoring 21 points (7-8 FG, 7-8 FT) and also grabbed a team high 6 rebounds. The rest of the Pioneers combined for 7-42 FG (17%) struggling to score against the Trappers defense. Julia Paoletta (Buenos Aires, Argentina) also reached double figures with 10 points (2-10 FG, 0-1 3's, 6-8 FT). India Blyth (Mebourne, Australia) handed out 5 assists. 

The Trappers were led in scoring by Jimena Montoro-Cabezas with 17 points (7-13 FG, 2-5 3's, 1-3 FT) and led in rebounding by Ana Knight and Nayeli Acosta with 7 each.

  • The Pioneers shot only 14-50 (28%) from the field and 2-11 (18%) from the 3-point line. They managed 21-26 (81%) from the free throw line.
  • Northwest College shot 24-60 (40%) from the field and 3-16 (19%) from the 3-point line. They hit on 11-15 (73%) from the free throw line. 
  • The Pioneers committed 23 turnovers to only 10 for the Trappers. 
  • MCC had a 40-36 advantage on the rebounding side of things with 9 offensive rebounds. 
  • There were 8 ties and 7 lead changes in the game. The Pioneers biggest lead was their 6-point halftime bulge. 

The Pioneers are now 4-6 overall and will travel to Gillette, WY this week for games against Western Wyoming, Casper, and Western Nebraska on Thursday - Saturday.
