Pioneers 71... Western Wyoming 75 OT
Pioneer freshman Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) hit a 3-point field goal at the buzzer to send the game to overtime, but Western Wyoming outscored the Pioneers 10-6 in the extra frame to pull out an exciting 75-71 win on Thursday night of the Border Wars in Gillette, WY.
The Pioneers rallied from a 10 point 3rd quarter deficit to tie the game heading to the 4th quarter. The two teams went back and forth in the 4th quarter as there were 5 ties and 5 lead changes in the quarter. Mustang Tamryn Blom had a double-double scoring 15 points (5-12 FG, 0-2 3's, 5-10 FT) and grabbing 13 rebounds. 3 other Mustangs hit for double figures as Kayde Strauss added 18 points (7-21 FG, 4-10 3's), Kayla Thornton added 14 points (5-15 FG, 1-2 3's, 3-3 FT), and Ashelynn Birch 10 (5-11 FG, 0-1 FT).
The Pioneers were led by India Blyth (Melbourne, Australia) with 20 points (7-15 FG, 3-10 3's, 3-4 FT) and 6 rebounds while fellow Aussie Jessica Tomkins hit for 16 points (5-9 FG, 6-8 FT) and 14 rebounds in the loss. Angelina Dimasi (Warooni, Australia) led the Pioneers with 5 assists.
