Cold Start Stalls Pioneer Women at Northwest College

Northwest College jumped out to a quick 17-2 lead and led 20-5 after a quarter of play enrout to a 66-48 non conference win on Friday night in Powell, Wyoming. The Pioneers connected on only 2-15 field goal attempts in the 1st quarter and had 16 turnovers in the 1st half to spell the quick demise. Jimena Montoro-Cabezas (5-8 FG, 2-5 3's, 4-4 FT) and Darla Hernandez (8-16 FG, 0-2 FT) each scored 16 points to lead the Trappers charge. Northwest also got 12 points (4-9 FG, 2-4 3's, 2-2 FT) from Roxanne Rogers and 11 points (3-5 FG, 1-1 3's, 4-4 FT) off the bench from Kamber Good Luck. 

The Pioneers played the Trappers virtually even after the rough 1st quarter start. Julia Paoletta (Buenos Aires, Argentina) led the Pioneers with 13 points (4-11 FG, 0-1 3's, 5-7 FT) and backcourt mate India Blyth (Melbourne, Australia) added 12 points (6-12 FG, 0-4 3's, 0-2 FT), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Reagan LaPlante (Miles City, MT) led the Pioneers in rebounding with 8.

  • MCC hit 20-54 (37%) from the field and only 2-14 (14%) from the 3-point line. They were 6-13 (46%) at the free throw line.

The Trappers improved to 12-5 on the season and the Pioneers fell to 4-11. The next Pioneer contest will be their last non-conference game of the season on January 5 at Central Wyoming College in Riverton, WY.
