Tomkins Big Night Leads Pioneer Women to Victory

Jessica Tomkins had quite a Sunday afternoon in Bottineau, ND. The 6'1 Freshman from Melbourne, Australia poured in 26 points (12-17 FG, 2-2 FT), hauled in 18 rebounds, dished out 7 assists, nabbed 4 steals, and had 2 blocked shots in a 85-66 Pioneer win over Dakota College at Bottineau. Tomkins points and rebounds were both career highs at MCC. She was aided by 15-point performances by India Blyth (Melbourne, Australia) and Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT). Blyth was 6-11 from the field and 3-7 from 3-point range. Melcher was 6-13 from the field and 3-8 from the 3-point line. All 9 players that saw court time on Sunday scored for MCC in a game that the Pioneers led from start to finish.

The Pioneers took a 41-31 lead to the halftime break and a 10-point lead to end the 3rd quarter. A 27-18 4th quarter put the game out of reach for MCC. 

The Lumberjacks got big games from Jacie Hall and Alyssa St Pierre. Hall (6'2 Sophomore) had a double-double with 24 points (8-19 FG, 8-10 FT) and 12 rebounds while St Pierre (5'8 Sophomore) had 25 points (9-20 FG, 2-6 3's, 5-7 FT). The Lumberjacks stayed winless in MonDak Conference action at 0-11 and are 6-14 overall.

  • The Lumberjacks shot 23-66 (35%) from the field and 5-18 (28%) from the 3-point line. They hit 15-19 from the free throw line. 
  • The Pioneers outrebounded the Lumberjacks 37-34. MCC had 10 offensive boards and DCB had 12. 
  • MCC had 19 turnovers to 20 for the Jacks. 
  • The reserves for the Pioneers were a big key in the game outscoring the Jacks bench 18-0. DCB had 6 players suited up for the contest.

MCC moved to 3-8 in MonDak Conference play and are 6-14 overall. They will travel to Williston State on Thursday for a 4:30 PM MST tip off.
