Both teams started out cold and finished hot as Bismarck State got the best of the Miles Community College women 73-63 on Monday night in Bismarck, ND. The Mystics put 3 players in double figures and survived a hot shooting night by Pioneer guard India Blyth (Melbourne, Australia to get the win. Blyth scored 30 points (10-16 FG, 8-12 3's, 2-2 FT) to keep the Pioneers in shouting distance but the Mystic balance was too much to overcome. 

Sydney Gustavsson (Mandan, ND) scored 22 points (7-14 FG, 2-3 3's, 6-6 FT), grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists to lead the way for the Mystics. Katherine Fox (White Shield, ND) added 17 points (7-13 FG, 0-5 3's, 3-4 FT) and 6 rebounds while Ashton Kinnebrew (Bismarck, ND) had 15 points (6-20 FG, 0-6 3's, 3-5 FT). Haley Gereau (Manvel, ND) led the Mystics with 8 rebounds. 

Jessica Tomkins (Melbourne, Australia) added 11 points (5-10 FG, 1-1 FT) and a team high 9 rebounds in the loss for MCC. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The two teams combined to shoot just 6-30 (20%) in the first quarter as the Mystics led 13-9. 
  • MCC warmed up the rest of the way finishing 24-56 (43%) from the field and 11-26 (42%) from 3-point land. MCC made only 4-7 at the free throw line. 
  • BSC finished up the contest 27-65 (42%) from the field and 3-17 (18%) at the free throw line. The difference in the game was the Mystics 16-23 effort at the free throw line. 
  • MCC's only lead of the game was 2-0 to start the 1st quarter. BSC led by as many as 16 points midway thru the 4th quarter. 
  • Bismarck State outrebounded the Pioneers 39-26. The Mystics had 13 offensive rebounds (scoring 15 points) and MCC had only 4 offensive rebounds (5 points).
  • MCC had 18 turnovers to 15 for BSC.

MCC fell to 4-9 in MonDak Conference play and 7-15 overall. The Mystics improved to 8-5 in league play and 11-8 overall. The Pioneers will next travel to Wahpeton, ND for a Sunday afternoon game against NDSCS at 1:00 PM MST.
