Pioneer Women Rally With Last Second Heroics to Defeat Bottineau in Overtime

Freshman Tyann Graham (Glasgow, MT) knocked down a 3-pointer from the top of the key at the 4th quarter buzzer to send the game to overtime tied 58-58 and the overtime session was all Pioneers as MCC escaped an upset bid by the Dakota College Lumberjacks on Sunday afternoon in Miles City, MT.

The Lumberjacks led for the majority of the 2nd half using only 5 players in uniform. Bottineau has 6 players on the roster but had one starter out with an injured ankle. The overtime session was all Pioneers as MCC outscored the Jacks 16-3. DCB saw 3 players foul out and finished the contest with only 2 players on the court. 

Jessica Tomkins (Melbourne, Australia) continued her strong play with 22 points (9-20 FG, 4-6 FT) to go along with 17 rebounds. The only other Pioneer in double figures was guard Julia Paoletta (Buenos Aires, Argentina) with 10 points (5-11 FG, 0-1 3's) and 4 assists. 

The Lumberjacks has 2 players record double-doubles as Koylynnn Guilliford scored 18 points (7-13 FG, 3-4 3's, 1-4 FT) and 11 rebounds and teammate Jacie Hall had 12 points (5-13 FG, 2-4 3's) and 12 rebounds. Sabra Peterson added 13 points and Alyssa St. Pierre scored 12 more while grabbing 9 rebounds. 

DCB led the Pioneers by 9 points with 4:48 remaining in the game but MCC got a few timely steals and baskets finished off by the Graham 3-pointer to get the game to overtime and gain the momentum.

  • The Pioneers took an astounding 86 field goal attempts and connected on 30 for 35%. They were only 3-22 (14%) from the 3-point line and 11-15 from the foul line.

MCC moved to 6-11 in MonDak Conference play and 9-17 overall. DCB remained winless in conference play at 0-17 and 6-20 overall. The Pioneers return the the Centra Monday night at 5:30 to play Williston State College in MonDak Conference play.
