Pioneer Women Winning Streak Halted at 4 Games by Bismarck State

Ashton Kinnebrew scored 19 points (8-21 FG, 3-11 3's) and Sydney Gustavsson added 16 points (4-18 FG, 2-9 3's, 6-8 FT) as the Mystics stopped the Pioneers 4-game winning streak and spoiled sophomore night for MCC. Gustavsson also added 15 rebounds and 4 assists in a game that the Mystics led 27-7 after the 1st quarter. The win put the Mystics in position to possibly grab the #2 seed in the MonDak Conference and a 1st round bye. BSC is 12-7 in MonDak Conference play and 15-10 overall. 

Jessica Tomkins (Melbourne, Australia) scored 22 points (10-15 FG, 2-4 FT) and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Pioneer efforts. Ella Paleaae-Cook (Melbourne, Australia) added 11 points (5-13 FG, 0-2 3's, 1-2 FT) and 5 rebounds off the Bench for MCC. 

The Mystics never trailed in the game and the game was tied only briefly at 2-2.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers shot 22-55 (40%) from the field and 4-17 (24%) from the 3-point line. MCC attempted only 8 free throws and made 5. 
  • The Mystics shot 23-68 (34%) from the field and 9-31 (29%) from the 3-point line. BSC hit 11-18 from the free throw line. 
  • MCC had 20 turnovers while the Mystics had 16. 
  • BSC outrebounded the Pioneers 46-37. The Mystics had 15 offensive boards and the Pioneers only 5.
  • MCC outscored BSC 46-39 over final 3 quarters but could not overcome 22 point 1st quarter deficit. 

The Pioneers fell to 8-12 in MonDak Conference play and 11-18 overall. MCC is locked in to the #6 spot for the conference tournament and will travel to the #3 seed on Wednesday, March 1. The final regular season contest for the Pioneers is Sunday, February 26th at Dawson CC. Tip off for the game is 2:00 PM.
