The MCC Pioneer women's basketball team looked well on their way to their 1st victory of the young season. The Pioneers led United Tribes by 22 points midway thru the 4th quarter after controlling the first 25 minutes of the contest. 

The final 15 minutes turned out to be something the Pioneers would like to forget. The Thunderbirds outscored the Pioneers 31-12 over the 4th quarter and 48-25 in the 2nd half after the Pioneers took a 41-23 lead to the halftime break. 

The Pioneers landed 4 players in double figures led by freshman Jssica Makayabo (Northlake, TX) with 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-5 FT) and 4 steals. Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) scored 10 points (3-14 FG, 2-7 3's, 2-2 FT), Lainey Smith (Miles City, MT) added 10 points (3-9 FG, 2-8 3's, 2-2 FT) as did Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) (3-9 FG, 4-4 FT) to go along with 6 rebounds. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers hit 23-63 (37%) from the field and 5-22 (23%) from the 3-point line. MCC was 15-19 (79%) from the free throw line. 
  • UTTC was 23-58 (40%) from the field and 6-20 (30%). The Thunderbirds hit 19-26 (73%) from free throw line. 
  • UTTC had 17 turnovers and MCC had 20. 
  • The Thunderbirds had 35 rebounds (6 off) and the Pioneers had 34 (5 off). 

MCC will complete the MonDak Tipoff Tournament tomorrow at 11:00 AM MST against Dakota College at Bottineau.
