Bottineau Topples Pioneers in High Scoring Affair

A high scoring game that saw multiple ties and lead changes came down to the final possession and Dakota College at Bottineau came out on top of a wild 87-84 game that left the Pioneers with an 0-3 record at the MonDak Conference Tipoff Tournament. 

The Pioneers trailed 27-23 at the end of a fast paced 1st quarter but turned things around with a 19-10 advantage in the 2nd quarter to take a 42-37 lead in to the half. Bottineau had the advantage in the 3rd quarter outscoring the Pioneers 24-16 to take a 61-57 lead in to the 4th. 

The teams then combined for 52 points in a wild 4th quarter and the Lumberjacks hung on for an 87-84 win. 

The Pioneers had 5 players score in double figures led by Tyann Graham (Glasgow, MT) with 15 points (2 3's, 5-9 FT). Lainey Smith (Miles City, MT) added 14 points (4 3's) while Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) and Jessica Makayabo (Northlake, TX) each tallied 13 points. Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) put up 11 points in the loss. 

The Pioneers hit 9 3-pointers and shot 23-33 from the free throw line. 

MCC is now 0-3 and will host Northwest College on Friday night at 5:00 PM. They will then play newly reinstated program Gillette College on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
