Pioneer Women Pick Up First Win of Season

Sophomore guard Tyann Graham (Glasgow, MT) poured in 22 points (6-9 FG, 3-6 3's, 7-8 FT) and freshman Lainey Smith (Miles City, MT) added 19 points (6-11 FG, 5-8 3's, 2-2 FT) as the Miles Community College women's basketball team picked up it's first win of the season beating Gillette College 72-66 on Saturday afternoon in Miles City, MT.

The Pioneers won in spite of the fact that they had 26 turnovers and took 28 fewer shots than the Pronghorns. Miles City, MT sophomore Reagan LaPlante added 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-2 FT) and 5 rebounds while frontcourt mate Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) finished with 9 points (4-8 FG, 1-2 FT. 

MCC led by as many as 10 points in the first half and Gillette's biggest lead was only 2 points. The score was tied 11 times and there were 4 lead changes. 

Gillette was led by Qaizden Stephano (Aukland, New Zealand) with 31 points (15-29 FG, 1-1 FT) and 12 rebounds while Dasani Nesbit (Froid, MT) had 13 points (4-11 FG, 0-2 3's, 5-8 FT) and 9 rebounds. 

Inside the Box Score

  • MCC shot 24-47 (51%) from the field including a 16-23 (70%) effort in the 2nd half. They were 8-19 from the 3-point line. Gillette was 27-75 (36%) from the field and failed to hit a 3-pointer on 11 attempts. 
  • The Pioneers were 17-24 at the free throw line and Gillette was 12-19. 
  • MCC committed 26 turnovers and Gillette had 17. 
  • Gillette outrebounded Miles 40-33. The Pronghorns had 20 offensive boards and MCC had 5. 
  • The Pioneers outscored the Pronghorns 47-41 in the 2nd half after being tied 25-25 at halftime. 

The Pioneers move to 1-4 on the season and will host Dickinson State JV on Tuesday night at 5:00 PM in the Centra.
