Tough Defense Spurs 2nd Consecutive Win for Pioneers

The MCC Pioneer women's basketball team laid out the best defensive effort of the season sparking the Pioneers to their 2nd consecutive victory with a 63-45 win over the Dickinson State JV on Tuesday night in Miles City. 

The Pioneers held the Bluehawks to only 14 field goals and 31% shooting on the night. 

The Pioneers had a balanced scoring attack with 4 players reaching double figures led by Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) with 12 points (5-14 FG, 2-2 FT) and Lainey Smith (Miles City, MT) with 11 points (4-12 FG, 3-8 3's). Tyann Graham (Glasgow, MT) added 10 points (2-5 FG, 2-5 3's, 4-5 FT) as did Hannah Wildner (Melbourne, Australia) (4-7 FG, 3-4 FT). Reagan LaPlante (Miles City, MT) led the Pioneers in rebounding with 6 and Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) had 5 assists. 

All 10 players from Dickinson scored but no player made it to double figures and no player had more than 2 baskets made. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers shot 23-63 (37%) from the field and 5-20 (25%) from 3-point range. MCC also hit 12-15 free throws. 
  • The Bluehawks shot only 14-45 (31%) from the field and 6-25 (24%) from 3-point range. DSU JV hit 8-14 (57%) from the free throw line. 
  • MCC outrebounded the Bluehawks 34-32. MCC had 9 offensive rebounds and DSU had 6.
  • MCC forced 23 Dickinson turnovers and the Pioneers committed only 7. 

The Pioneers are now 2-4 overall and 0-3 in MonDak Conference play. MCC will host Carroll College JV on Saturday at 1:00 PM and Rocky Mountain College JV on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
