Pioneers 81... Carroll College JV 69

The MCC Pioneer women's basketball team rode the waves of a huge 2nd half to pull out a 81-69 victory over the Carroll College JV for their 3rd consecutive win after dropping their first 4 games. The Pioneers outscored the Saints 51-31 in the 2nd half after trailing 38-30 at the break. MCC connected on 7-14 3-point field goals in the 2nd half and also hit 12-14 free throws in the frame. 

Freshman Lainey Smith (Miles City, MT) was spot on hitting for 20 points (6-8 FG, 6-7 3's, 2-2 FT) to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) scored 19 points (6-13 FG, 4-8 3's, 3-4 FT) and fellow sophomore Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) also scored 19 points (8-14 FG, 3-3 FT) and picked up 8 rebounds. Reagan LaPlante (Miles City, MT) also had 8 rebounds and Tyann Graham (Glasgow, MT) had 7 assists. 

The Pioneers trailed by 11 points early in the 3rd quarter and flipped that to a 13-point lead late in the 4th quarter.

  • MCC shot 59% in the 2nd half (16-27) after shooting 39% (12-31) in the 1st half. Carroll shot 48% in the 1st half (13-27) and dropped off to 39% in the 2nd half (13-33).
  • The Pioneers hit 11-22 (50%) from the 3-point line. The Saints were only 5-18 (28%).
  • MCC outrebounded Carroll 46-32 and had 8 offensive rebounds. Carroll had 5. 
  • MCC had 19 turnovers and the Saints had 14. 

The Pioneers are now 3-4 on the season and host Rocky Mountain College JV on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
