Pioneer Women Fall Victim of Big 2nd Half Lake Region Rally

The MCC Pioneers scored 23 2nd quarter points to take a 33-26 lead to the halftime break. The Pioneers then scored only 23 points over the final 20 minutes to fall to the Lake Region State College Royals 64-56 at home in Miles City. 

The Pioneers trailed 18-10 after one quarter of play but then used a 23-8 2nd quarter outburst for a 7-point halftime lead. The game went back and forth with 3 ties and 6 lead changes in the 2nd half  as the game was tied at 46-46 heading to the final frame. The Pioneers got stuck on 46 for over 5 minutes as the Royals built a 55-46 lead and held on down the stretch. The Pioneers hit only 7-33 in the 2nd half for 21%. 

Freshman guard Lainey Smith (Miles City, MT) was the lone Pioneer in double figures with a 17-point effort (6-12 FG, 3-5 3's, 2-3 FT) . Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) had a team high 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

  • The Pioneers shot 20-60 (33%) from the field for the game and hit 5-13 (38%) from the 3-point line. MCC was solid at the free throw line with an 11-13 perfomance. 
  • The Royals shot 23-60 (38%) from the field and 8-29 (28%) from 3-point range. They were 4-9 in the 2nd half after being 4-20 in the first half. The Royals were 10-13 from the free throw line. 
  • Both teams grabbed 37 rebounds and MCC had 7 offensive rebounds while LRSC had 4. 
  • MCC had 15 turnovers and LRSC had 11. 
  • They Royals biggest lead of the game was 12 points late in the 4th quarter after the Pioneers had build a 9-point lead early in the 3rd quarter. 

Lake Region moved to 2-4 in MonDak Conference play and 4-6 overall. The Pioneers fell to 1-6 in MonDak play and are 4-8 overall. MCC's next game is Thursday afternoon at 4:15 against Casper College in Gillette, WY.
