Gillette Avenges Early Season Loss to Pioneers

One month after the MCC Pioneers defeated Gillette College 72-66 in Miles City, the Pronghorns turned the tides on the Pioneers and avenged that loss with a 77-49 win on Friday afternoon in Gillette, WY. Gillette got off to a fast start with a 24-12 lead after one quarter and stretched that lead to 49-24 at the half. 

Gillette got 24 points and 6 rebounds from guard Alyssa Beckford, 16 points and 8 rebounds off the bench from Qaizden Stephano, and 14 more from Malena Edwards. 

The Pioneers were led in scoring by Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) with 12 points (6-10 FG) and Eneboe also had 5 rebounds. Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) picked up 11 points but struggled shooting from the field hitting 3-15 and 1-9 from 3-point line. She was 4-4 at the free throw line. Reagan LaPlante (Miles City, MT) had a team high 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

  • The Pioneers hit only 19-60 (32%) from the field and 2-22 (9%) from 3-point range. MCC was only 50% at the free throw line hitting 9-18.
  • The Pronghorns hit 31-61 (51%) from the field and 1-13 (8%) from the 3 points line as the teams combined 3-35 from distance. Gillette hit 14-21 from the free throw line. 
  • The Pioneers outrebounded Gillette 41-37 and had 16 offensive boards. Gillette had 7 offensive rebounds.
  • The Pioneers could not overcome 22 turnovers. Gillette had 12. 
  • Gillette led for the entirety of the game as MCC never led. 

The Pioneers are now 4-10 overall and will finish the 2023 portion of their schedule with a 12:30 PM MST game Saturday against Western Nebraska in Gillette.
