The Western Nebraska Cougar defense clamped the MCC Pioneer offense on Saturday afternoon in Gillette, WY to the tune of a 69-40 victory on the final day of the Border Wars event at Gillette College. The Pioneer offense couldn't get anything going as Western Nebraska forced 36 Pioneer turnovers and held MCC to 33% shooting and only one 3-point field goal in the game. 

Western Nebraska got 23 points (9-15 FG, 2-6 3's, 3-4 FT) from Amaiyah Donaldson and 13 (6-14 FG, 1-6 3's) more from Mackenzie Joseph in the win. 

The Pioneers got 14 points (5-8 FG, 4-7 FT) and 7 rebounds from Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT). Lainey Smith (Miles City, MT) also had 7 rebounds and Tyann Graham (Glasgow, MT) had 4 assists.

  • The Pioneers shot just 14-43 (33%) from the field and 1-8 from 3-point range. MCC was 11-15 from the free throw line. 
  • The Cougars shot 28-71 (39%) from the field and 5-28 (18%) from 3-point range. WNCC was 8-17 from the free throw line. 
  • The Pioneers outrebounded the Cougars 41-39. MCC had 6 offensive rebounds and WNCC had 14. 
  • The Pioneers committed 36 turnovers and the Cougars had 17. 
  • MCC scored the first basket of the game and didn't lead again. 

The Pioneers are 4-11 and will now take a break until January 9 when they travel to Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming for a 5:30 PM start.
