Pioneers Get Off to Rocky Start in 2024

The 3rd quarter turned out to be the demise of the MCC Pioneer women's basketball team in the 2024 opener and final non-conference game of the season. 

The Pioneers connected on only 1-11 field goals and scored only 5 points after trailing just 24-21 at halftime. Northwest College extended that halftime lead to 35-26 at the end of the 3rd quarter. MCC picked up steam in the 4th quarter shooting 8-14 from the field and cut the 9-point deficit to 41-39 with 5 minutes to play. Northwest College then took command of the game with a 15-2 run putting the game away building a 56-41 lead. 

The Pioneers were led in scoring by Becky Melcher (Forsyth, Montana) with 17 points (7-18 FG, 3-8 3's). Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) followed up with 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-6 FT) and a team high 8 rebounds. 

The Trappers had only one player in double figures led by Roxanne Rogers with 16 points (4-13 FG, 3-6 3's, 5-6 FT)

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers shot 17-51 (33%) from the field and 3-12 from 3-point range. MCC hit only 10-20 (50%) from the free throw line. 
  • The Trappers shot only 19-65 (29%) and 7-23 (30%) from 3-point range. NWC was 13-17 (77%) from the 3-point line. 
  • MCC outrebounded NWC 39-34. Each team had 7 offensive rebounds. 
  • The Pioneers had 23 turnovers to only 15 for the Trappers. 
  • The Pioneers biggest lead was 5 points in the 1st quarter. The Trappers biggest lead was 15 points in the 4th quarter. 
  • MCC got only 4 points off the bench while NWC had 14 points off the bench. 

MCC is 4-12 on the season and will resume MonDak Conference play on Thursday night in Glendive, Montana against Dawson CC at 5:30 PM. Northwest College is 10-6 on the season.
