NDSCS Gets By Pioneer Women

The NDSCS Wildcat women's basketball team exploded for 29 points in the 1st quarter and then repeated that again in the 3rd quarter and defeated the MCC Pioneers 82-56 on Monday night in Wahpeton, ND.

Wildcat guard Shania Nichols VanNett hammered out a triple double with 14 points (6-13 FG, 2-4 3's), 15 rebounds, and 12 assists while forward Savannah Jones led the Wildcats with 22 points (10-15 FG, 2-5 FT) and 9 rebounds. 

The Pioneers had only one player hit double figures as Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) scored 12 points (3-14 FG, 3-11 3's, 3-4 FT). Hannah Wildner (Melbourne, Australia) added 8 points (3-6 FG, 2-3 FT) and a team high 7 rebounds.

  • The Pioneers shot 22-62 (36%) from the field and 3-20 (15%) from the 3-point line. MCC hit on 9-12 free throw attempts. 
  • The Wildcats shot 35-71 (49%) from the feild and 2-13 (15%) from the 3-point line. NDSCS hit 10-15 from the free throw line. 
  • NDSCS outrebounded the Pioneers 52-28 for the game and piled up 17 offensive rebounds. The Pioneers had 6 offensive rebounds. 
  • MCC had 13 turnovers and NDSCS had 15. 
  • Both teams had 24 bench points. 
  • NDSCS outscored MCC 36-20 in the paint. 

The Pioneers fell to 3-7 in MonDak Conference play and are now 6-13 overall. NDSCS moved to 9-1 in conference play and are 16-3 overall. The Pioneers don't play again until January 24 when they host Dakota College at Bottineau at 5:30 PM.
