Pioneers Drop Nailbiter to Bismarck State

In a back and forth game that was close from start to finish, the Bismarck State Mystics pulled out an exciting 73-71 win over the Miles Community College Pioneers on Sunday afternoon in Miles City. The game featured 10 ties and 11 lead changes and the biggest lead in the game was a 7-point margin by the Mystics after hitting a 3-point basket to start the 2nd half. 

Bismarck State led 73-68 with 38 seconds left in the game when Becky Melcher banked in a 3-point field goal to cut the lead to 2 points. Following 2 missed free throws by the Mystics with 22 seconds remaining the Pioneers had a chance to tie the score late and send the game to overtime but a shot by Tyann Graham (Glasgow, MT) was off the mark and Graham got the offensive rebound but it was stolen away by the Mystics. The Pioneers were forced to foul with 3 seconds remaining and the Mystics again missed 2 free throws. Pioneer Skyler Neumann (Spokane, WA) then had a half court shot miss just to the left of the hoop and the Mystics escaped with the win. 

The Pioneers got 16 points (5-11 FG, 4-9 3's, 2-2 FT) and 5 rebounds from Lainey Smith (Miles City, MT) to lead the way for MCC. Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) scored 15 points (7-11 FG, 1-1 FT) and grabbed a team high 7 rebounds wnd  Jessica Makayabo (North Lake, TX) added 15 points (5-12 FG, 1-1 3's, 4-8 FT) and 5 rebounds off the bench. Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) chipped in with 11 points (4-10 FG, 3-6 3's). 

Bismarck State was led by Carlie Lawrence (Timber Lake, SD) with 21 points (7-8 FG, 3-4 3's, 4-5 FT) and Harys Beauchamp (Beulah, ND) with 16 points (5-11 FG, 2-6 3's, 4-6 FT).

  • The Pioneers shot 25-62 (40%) from the field and 8-19 (42%) from the 3-point line. MCC hit 13-19 (68%) from the free throw line. 
  • The Mystics shot 26-56 (46%) from the field and 9-25 (36%) from the 3-point line. BSC hit only 12-23 (52%) at the free throw line. 
  • The Pioneers outrebounded the Mystics 31-28. MCC had 8 offensive rebounds and BSC had 4.
  • Bismarck State committed 15 turnovers and the Pioneers had 14. 

 The Mystics move to 3-10 in MonDak Conference play and 4-18 overall. The Pioneers fall to 3-10 in MonDak play and are 6-16 overall. Miles CC will host Lake Region State College on Thursday at 11:00 AM in MCC's annual Elementary School day.
