NDSCS Uses Huge 3rd Quarter to Push Past Pioneer Women

The North Dakota State College of Science women used a 30-point 3rd quarter to pull away from the MCC Pioneers for a 94-82 MonDak Conference victory on Sunday afternoon in Miles City, MT. 

This high scoring affair saw both teams go back and forth in the 1st half with the Wildcats taking a 43-40 lead to the locker room. The Wildcats then shot 56% from the field in the 2nd half and stretched their lead to as many as 19 points with 4:00 to go in the 4th quarter. 

Shania Nichols-Vannett (St. Paul, MN) led the Wildcats in scoring with 23 points (11-17 FG, 1-3 3's) to go along with 6 rebounds. Jordan Toman (Mandan, ND) chipped in with 21 points (7-10 FG, 4-6 3's, 3-4 FT). Michelle Arens (Ankara, Turkey) supplied 16 points (6-11 FG, 0-1 3's, 4-5 FT) and was joined in double figures by Savanna Jones (Eden Prairie, MN) with 15 points (5-7 FG, 5-6 FT) and a team high 7 rebounds off the bench. 

The Pioneers were led by Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) with 20 points (6-13 FG, 5-11 3's, 3-3 FT) and Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) with 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-3 FG) and a team high 5 rebounds. Jessica Makayabo (Northlake, TX) came off the bench to score 12 points (5-11 FG, 1-1 3's, 1-2 FT. Tyann Graham (Glasgow, MT) had 6 assists for MCC.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers shot 31-68 (46%) from the field and 12-31 (39%) from 3-point range. MCC hit on 8-10 at the free throw line.
  • NDSCS shot 35-67 (52%) from the field and 7-19 (37%) from the 3-point line. NDSCS hit 17-21 at the free throw line. 
  • The Pioneers outrebounded the Wildcats 29-26. MCC had 11 offensive rebounds and NDSCS has 9.
  • The Pioneers committed 19 turnovers to 13 for the Wildcats. 
  • The Wildcats had only 7 healthy players in uniform for the contest. 

NDSCS pushed its record to 12-3 in MonDak Conference play and 19-5 overall. The Pioneers fell to 3-12 in MonDak Conference play and 6-18 overall. MCC will finish up its 6-game homestand with a game on Thursday night agains United Tribes at 5:30 PM MST.
