Season Ends For Pioneer Women In Region XIII Quarterfinal

The 2023-24 season came to an end on Wednesday night for the MCC Pioneer women with a 72-55 loss to Dawson in Glendive. The Pioneers had defeated the Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon in Miles City but the Bucs turned the tides in the Region XIII Quarterfinal. Dawson had 14 players reach double figures as the Bucs ruined a career high 28 points from Pioneer forward Brae Eneboe.

The Pioneers got off to a rough start in the 1st half shooting only 8-30 (27%) in the 1st half as the Bucs built a 24-9 lead after one quarter of play and a 37-17 lead at halftime. The Pioneers tried to battle back in the 2nd half shooting 8-13 (62%) in the 3rd quarter but could only cut the lead to 15 points.The teams went back and forth in the 4th quarter but Dawson grew their lead to 23 points with 5:00 to play and the Pioneers could not get back in to the game. 

Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) shot 13-18 from the field, 1-1 from the 3-point line, and 1-4 from the free throw line in her final game as a Pioneer. Fellow Sophomore Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) scored 11 points (4-12 FG, 2-9 3's, 1-2 FT) and had 3 assists. 

Kylee Old Elk had a triple double in the winning effort. She scored 13 points (2-7 FG, 9-14 FT), while adding 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Her sister Breanna Old Elk led the Bucs in scoring with 14 points (7-16 FG, 0-3 3's, 0-1 FT) and had 5 rebounds. McKenzie Peterson had 13 points (5-7 FG, 1-1 3's, 2-2 FT) and Alaina Woods added 11 points (4-5 FG, 0-1 3's, 3-4 FT).

  • The Pioneers shot 24-62 (39%) from the field and 5-22 (23%) from the 3-point line. MCC was 2-8 from the free throw line. 
  • The Buccaneers shot 26-57 (46%) from the field and 2-10 from the 3-point line. DCC hit 18-29 from the free throw line. 
  • Dawson outrebounded Miles 46-31. DCC had 13 offensive rebounds and MCC had 7.
  • The Pioneers committed 23 turnovers and the Buccaneers had 19. 
  • Dawson never trailed in the game and the score was only tied once. 

DCC is now 12-19 and advances to the Region XIII semifinal on Saturday and will face Williston State in Williston. The Pioneer season comes to an end with a 8-23 record.
