Shooting Woes Continue to Plague Pioneer Women in Loss to Bottineau

Kiara Comeaux (Sophomore - Carenco, LA) notched a triple double and backcourt mate Amari Butler (Sophomore - Franklin, LA) had a double double as the Dakota College defense held the MCC Pioneers to 30% shooting in a 89-73 win on Sunday afternoon at "The Woodshed" in Bottineau, ND.

Comeaux scored 18 points (5-11 FG, 8-9 3's), dished out 14 assists, grabbed 11 rebounds, and had 6 steals and Butler had 25 points (10-27 FG, 5-18 3's) to go along with 10 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the way for the Lumberjack attack. Karrington Eugene (Sophomore - Youngsville, LA) came off the bench to score 14 points (4-6 FG, 6-6 FT) and had 8 rebounds while teammate Terayna Tapija-Jones (Freshman - Peach Springs, AZ) also added 14 points (6-9 FG, 2-3 FT) and 9 rebounds. 

The Lumberjacks built a 22-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed in the contest. They blew the game wide open in the 2nd quarter outscoring the Pioneers 25-14 for a 47-28 lead. The Pioneers rallied to cut the Lumberjack lead to single digits midway through the 4th quarter but could not get over the hump.

MCC was led in scoring by Tyla Scorah (Freshman - Pakenham, Australia) with 19 points (8-22 FG, 3-11 3's) and 6 rebounds while Lainey Smith (Sophomore - Miles City, MT) had 17 points (6-17 FG, 3-9 3's, 2-2 FT). Mia Mader (Freshman - Broadus, MT) came off the bench to add 13 points 3-11 FG, 2-5 3's, 5-6 FT) and Jessica Makayabo added 10 points (3-6 FG, 4-6 FT).

  • The Pioneers shot 25-82 (30.5%) from the field and 8-27 from the 3-point line. MCC was 15-21 from the free throw line. 
  • The Lumberjacks shot 33-71 (47%) from the field and 7-25 from the 3-point line. DCB was 16-18 from the free throw line. 
  • The Lumberjacks outrebounded the Pioneers 43-40. The Pioneers had 13 offensive rebounds and the Jacks had 7.
  • MCC committed 20 turnovers and DCB had 23. 
  • MCC was whistled for 23 fouls and DCB had only 15.

The Pioneers fell to 2-11 in MonDak Conference play and are 4-25 overall. DCB is 5-8 in conference play and 13-14 overall. MCC concludes its regular season schedule Monday night in Williston, ND at 4:30 PM MST.
