Season Comes To a Close For Pioneer Women at Lake Region State

The season came to a close on Sunday afternoon in Devils Lake, ND for the MCC Pioneers in a 86-54 defeat to the #4 seed Lake Region State College Royals in the quarterfinals of the Region XIII Playoffs. 

Lake Region raced out to a 20-11 1st quarter lead and didn't look back as they built a 48-30 halftime advantage. 

Sydney Schwabe hot the hot hand for the Royals pouring in 27 points (9-17 FG, 6-10 3's, 3-6 FT) and grabbing 6 rebounds leading 4 players in double figures. Lara Graham came off the bench to add 18 points (6-12 FG, 4-8 3's, 2-3 FT) while Arden Faulkner netted 14 points (6-10 FG, 1-3 3's, 1-1 FT. Kiara Holweger had a team high 10 rebounds for the Royals. 

The Pioneers were led by Tyla Scorah (Freshman - Pakenham, Victoria) with 11 points (3-7 FG, 2-6 3's, 3-4 FT) and Jessica Makayabo (Sophomore - Eastlake, TX) added 10 points (4-9 FG, 2-2 FT) and 7 rebounds.  Isabella Gurie (Sophomore - Columbus, MT) also had 7 rebounds for MCC.

  • MCC shot 20-52 (39%) from the field and 4-21 from the 3-point line. MCC was 10-16 from the free throw line. 
  • LRSC shot 29-65 (45%) from the field and 11-32 from the 3-point line. LRSC was 17-32 from the free throw line. 
  • MCC committed 25 turnovers to just 6 for Lake Region State.
  • The Pioneers outrebounded the Royals 37-31. Both teams had 8 offensive rebounds. 

Lake Region heads to Wahpeton, ND for Region XIII Semifinal action on Wednesday night. The Pioneers season comes to a close with a 4-27 record.
