TRAPPERS DEFEAT PIONEERS IN FIVE-SET MATCH

Miles City, MT - The Pioneers took on the Trappers of Northwest College on Wednesday evening in the Kailey Gymnasium.  After a hard fought match, the Trappers defeated the Pioneers 3-2.  The Pioneers lost by scores of, 25-15, 21-25, 9-25, 27-25, and 6-15.

"We started off phenomenal, and then we had a few minor setbacks," said head coach Chase Soennichsen.  "Once we went back to the game plan, we were able to finish strong."

In the first set, the Pioneers jumped out to an early lead and never let up.  It was all Pioneers, as they easily won the set 25-19.  The second set was a hard fought battle that the Pioneers ended up on the wrong side of and fell, 21-25. The third set was a tough one for the Pioneers, as they fell 9-25. The fourth set was full of excitement.  The Pioneers were down and mounted a comeback to tie the game and eventually take the set win, 27-25. In the fifth and final set, the Trappers proved too much for the Pioneers with a 15-6 victory to close out the game.

Samantha Bonenberger led the team in assists with 20.  Ceeara Staiger had nine kills.  The team had eight aces.  Kailey Thomson, once again, dominated defensively with 37 digs.  Leah Aigner and Briannah Quick had three blocks apiece.  

The Pioneers have the weekend off, before heading to Bismarck, ND for a conference matchup against the Mystics on Wednesday, September 26 at 6:00pm.
