Pioneer Volleyball Splits Matches

MCC Pioneer Volleyball took a step backward on Tuesday night in Billings but rebounded in a big way on Wednesday in home opener on Wednesday night.

The Pioneers dropped a 1-3 decision against the Rocky Mountain College JV team. MCC got off to a hot start winning game 1, but too many errors in the following games led to the loss. Matilda Dietz (Manhattan, MT) had 14 digs on the evening while Briley Cook (Shepherd, MT) contributed 2 aces. Olivia Easton (Billings, MT) had 2 blocks and Hailee Kuske (New England, ND) had 8 kills. Samantha Bonenberger had 19 assists to round out the evening.

MCC rallied in the 2019 home opening by defeating Region IX opponent Northwest College for the 2nd time this season. In some very tightly contested games, the Pioneers prevailed 25-23, 18-25, 26-26, 25-22. The match could have gone either way, but the Pioneers made big plays when they needed to squeak out the victory. Dietz had 12 digs and 3 aces, Easton and Mariah Simmons (Hardin, MT) had 12 kills, Taylor Stahl had 3.5 blocks, and Bonenberger had 30 assists.

Miles moved to 2-4 on the young season. They will face Northwest College again in their next match, this time in Powell, WY on Tuesday night.
