Pioneer Get Sweep in Devil's Lake

The MCC Pioneer Volleyball team might be hitting its stride at just the right time. The Pioneers completed a 4 match sweep at the LRSC Slamfest in Devils Lake on Saturday.

The first match of the day saw MCC squeak by Providence 3-2. MCC rallied from a 1-2 deficit and won the 5th game 15-11 to take the match.

Samantha Bonenberger led the charge with 35 assists and 3 aces on the match. Matilda Dietz had 16 digs, Hailee Kuske picked up 5 blocks, and Miles City product Saige Diegel led the team with 10 kills on the match.

The second match of the day was a revenge matchup. After losing a couple of weeks ago in Bottineau in 5 sets, MCC swept the Lumberjacks 3-0 on Saturday for the 4-0 weekend and put MCC over the .500 mark for the first time this season at 14-13.

Bonenbeger had 40 assists in the match. Diegel had 3 aces and joined Mariah Simmons with 10 kills each. Celsa Castro had 14 digs and Kuske once again led in blocks with 2.5.

The Pioneers wrap up the home portion of their schedule this week. On Tuesday, they host Dakota College-Bottineau at 7:00 PM and then Sophomore night on Wednesday as Williston State comes to the Centra for another 7:00 PM match. MCC is 4-5 and sits in 4th place in the MonDak Conference Standings.
