Rough Day For Pioneer Volleyball in Jamestown

Rough Day For Pioneer Volleyball in Jamestown

After winning their home opener on Tuesday against Rocky Mountain College JV, the Pioneer volleyball team had the first true road match of the season against the Jamestown University JV and things took a turn for the worse from the start. The Pioneer offense was stalled by the Jamestown Black JV in a quick 3-game Jimmie victory and the Orange JV held off the Pioneers in a hard fought 5-game win.

Pioneers 0... Jamestown JV Black 3 (13-25, 8-25, 10-25)

Nothing for the Pioneers went well in this match in Jamestown, ND. The Pioneer offense struggled and the defense had a tough time handling the Jimmie offense. Ruby Gray (Billings, MT) led the Pioneers with only 4 kills and Leah Champlin (Billings, MT) and Ashtynn Egan (Colstrip, MT) added 3 kills each. Maria Stewart (Billings, MT) had 11 assists, while Jayda Southworth (Winifred, MT), Bailey Nowicki (Miles City, MT), and Egan each had a service ace. Bree Swanson (Chinook, MT) had 8 digs and Stewart added 7.

Pioneers 2... Jamestown JV Orange 3 (23-25, 26-24, 25-15, 22-25, 10-15)

Match 2 for the Pioneers was much more competitive but MCC could not take advantage of a 2-1 lead losing the final 2 games in heart breaking fashion.

Skyla Pierson (Deer Lodge, MT) and Kodiann Lynn (Simms, MT) each had 11 kills to lead the Pioneers at the net. Maria Stewart set up the hitters for 44 assists, 15 digs, and 2 aces. Jayda Southworth led the Pioneers with 3 service aces. Bree Swanson had 23 digs to lead MCC while Ruby Gray had 3 blocks.

The Pioneers head to Ellendale, ND for a match tonight against Trinity Bible College at 6:00 PM MST. MCC will then start MonDak Conference play on Tuesday at NDSCS. The road trip will finish off Wednesday night in Devils Lake with a match against Lake Region State College.
