Pioneers Chop Down Lumberjacks

Pioneers 3... Dakota College at Bottineau 0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-9)

The MCC Pioneer volleyball team evened up their season record at 6-6 with a resounding 3-0 win over the Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks on Tuesday night in Miles City, MT. The Pioneers also moved into 3rd place in the conference with a 2-2 record.

This match was never close as MCC needed less than an hour to overwhelm the Lumberjacks.

Game 1 was lopsided from the start as the Pioneers took a 14-6 lead and never looked back. Game 2 was back and forth until a 13-11 Pioneer lead jumped to 19-11 after 6 consecutive service points by Miles City Native Bailey Nowicki. The 2-0 win seemed to take the wind out of the Lumberjack sails as MCC dominated game 3 from the start taking a 16-4 lead before winning 25-9.

A balanced Pioneer hitting attack was led by Kodiann Lynn (Simms, MT). Leah Champlin (Billings, MT) added 9 kills and Jayda Southworth (Winifred, MT) came up with 8 kills and 4 blocks. Maria Stewart (Billings, MT) once again led the team with 36 assists.

Bree Swanson (Chinook, MT) had 13 digs and 2 assists in the match while Ashtynn Egan had 10. Bailey Nowicki added 9 digs.

The Pioneers are home again tonight against Williston State College at 7:00 PM.
