Pioneers Pull Off Another 5-Game Thriller at Rocky JV

Pioneers 3... Rocky Mountain JV 2 (24-26, 25-22, 25-14, 22-25, 15-12)

Coming off a disappointing loss on Sunday afternoon in Helena, the MCC Pioneers headed to Billings and rallied with a 5-game victory over a stubborn Rocky Mountain College JV team on Monday night. The Pioneers dropped a tightly contested game 1 by the score of 24-26. MCC quickly rallied to pull off games 2 and 3 to take a 2-1 lead and seemed to have control of the match. 

RMC then tied things up at 2-2 with a 22-25 win in game 4 setting up a deciding game 5. The Pioneers held on in 5 setting up a showdown on Wednesday night in Glendive at 7:00 PM against rival Dawson CC. 

Sophomore setter Maria Stewart (Billings, MT) set a school record with 60 assists in the match. She spread out the Pioneer offense to multiple players led by Kodiann Lynn (Simms, MT) with 18 kills. Leah Champlin (Billings, MT) had 15 kills and Ashtynn Egan (Colstrip, MT) added 13. 

Defensively, Bree Swanson (Chinook, MT) had 29 digs, Lynn added 24, and Egan had 18. Jayda Southworth (Winifred, MT) had a big night at the net with 7 blocks.

Bailey Nowicki (Miles City, MT), Stewart, Lynn, and Egan all had a service ace. 

The Pioneers are now 8-7 on the season and 3-2 in MonDak Conference play.
