Pioneers Sneak By Dawson in Regular Season Finale

Pioneers 3... Dawson 2 (22-25, 25-11, 25-22, 23-25, 15-13)

The MCC Pioneer volleyball team dug itself out of a 9-12 hole in game 5 on Wednesday night and rallied for a thrilling 15-13 win to end the regular season on a high note. 

The Pioneers got off to a slow start dropping game 1 22-25. The game was tied at 22 and Dawson rattled off the final 3 points to take a 1-0 lead. 

MCC quickly turned things around with a dominating game 2 performance that saw the Pioneers win 25-11. They took that momentum to game 3 and broke away from an 18-18 tie to win 25-22. 

Dawson struck back in a tight game 4 with a 23-25 victory. 

With the match on the line in game 5, Dawson led 9-12 and looked in command until the Pioneers scored 4 straight to take a 13-12 lead. Dawson tied it at 13-13 but MCC answered with the final 2 points to take the match. 

Ashtynn Egan (Colstrip, MT) had a big match with 22 kills and 20 digs. Kodiann Lynn (Simms, MT) added 13 digs and Maria Stewart (Pryor, MT) assisted on 43 of the Pioneer kills. 

Bailey Nowicki (Miles City, MT) and Bree Swanson (Chinook, MT) each had 3 service aces and Swanson added 19 digs. Hattie Bumgarner (Belt, MT) was solid at the net with 5 blocks.  

The Pioneers finish the regular season with a 12-11 record overall and 6-6 in the MonDak Conference. MCC travels to Williston State on Sunday, October 22 for a Region XIII playoff match at 1:00 PM MST. Williston State also finished at 6-6 in conference.
